If you have all of your wooden furniture in one room, the environment may seem a little dark and drab. With nothing in the room to make it stand out, it can easily become one of the least uninhabited areas in your home. Here are some tips to help you switch things up when it comes to your wood furniture.

1. Mix up furniture with flooring. If you have wooden furniture, it’s best to leave it out of a room that has similar toned wooden floors. Instead of creating monotony, add lighter pieces to rooms with darker stained flooring and/or vice versa.
2. Let the bigger pieces anchor the room. Start with a large piece of furniture then create the overall look of the room around that. If you choose to add more wooden pieces, be sure to use ones that contrast against the larger one.
3. Don’t forget about balance. Keep the room balanced by using different finishes throughout the area.
4. Choose a dominant wood tone. There are many different types; don’t get overwhelmed. Simply select the ones you prefer and work on creating your own unique look.
5. Choose a dominant color and/or pattern. If you’re unsure as to whether the different types of finishes you’ve chosen will work well together, select a color and/or pattern for your other pieces – such as pillows, lamp shades, and stools – to help tie everything together.
6. Throw in a rug. Rugs create a nice transition between wooden furniture legs and wood floors.
